Winter Composting Using the Bokashi Method

Compost in the winter?? That's right! We will learn about the Bokashi method of composting food waste, which utilizes fermentation to reduce the time required to break things down. Together we will each assemble a simple and effective Bokashi compost bin that is ready to accept all food waste, including meat, dairy, and bones. The ticket price of $47 includes the cost of two 5-gallon buckets, one lid, a spigot, additional materials needed to construct the Bokashi bins, and the specialized Bokashi mixture that is used to start the fermentation process. Participants can save $15 if they bring their own 5-gallon buckets and lid. This option is available when selecting your ticket.Bio: Billy Brown is a self-proclaimed “bio nerd” who has been fascinated by Mother Nature from an early age. As a young boy, he spent much time exploring the bottom of Lake Couchiching for crayfish and clams, and scuttling over the rocks of Georgian Bay for frogs and epic views. He studied Zoology at the University of Guelph and graduated with an HBSc. Shortly after, his father died of cancer and Billy was inspired to attend the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition to learn how to deeply nourish the body. This inspired him to learn how to grow food and how to source the most nutrient-dense, ecologically regenerative foods available. Today Billy passes on his accumulated knowledge of food and Nature to his community in the form of workshops, 1-1 programs, presentations, videos and edible garden installations. He feels honoured and grateful to be truly living his dream by teaching folks the old ways of the ancestors, so that we may return to a simpler lifestyle that is in balance with Nature.Cancelation Policy: Cancellations made 7 days or more in advance of the event date will receive a 100% refund.
